FAQ

Tipping is not mandatory in Australia, but it is appreciated for good service. A typical tip at a sit-down restaurant is 10–15% for good service, and up to 20% for exceptional service. For cafes and casual dining, rounding up to the nearest dollar or leaving a few coins is common.

Divide the bill by 10 (move the decimal one place left) to get 10%, then add half of that for the extra 5%. For example, a $80 bill ÷ 10 = $8 (10%), plus $4 (5%) = $12 tip total. Or just let this calculator do the maths for you.

This calculator splits the bill evenly across all people. For uneven splits (where different people ordered different amounts), calculate each person's individual subtotal first, then apply the tip percentage to each one separately.
